NAB Highlights “TV and Radio HQ” in Central Hall

More details are available now about the TV and Radio HQ that will be a feature of the Central Hall floor at the NAB Show in April.

Radio World was first to tell you, last spring, about NAB’s plan to move the HQ to the newly renovated Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The broadcast HQ area had been in the West Hall for the last several years.

Karen Chupka, NAB’s executive vice president of global connections and events, said in the new announcement that broadcasters “want to experience NAB Show … with relevant, high-energy programming that’s integrated directly into the show floor.”

In addition to a concentration of relevant exhibit booths, the area will feature an HQ Theater, promising “quick-hit, entertaining sessions and live conversations.”  Next door will be the NAB Member Lounge, including networking events.

A new workforce development program will provide sessions about how “AI, shifting talent models and emerging workforce trends are reshaping organizational strategy.” That program targets decision-makers but is open to all attendees.

The TV and Radio HQ will be just inside the newly renovated west-facing front of the LVCC, facing the Silver Lot, Vegas Loop station and monorail tracks. (View a map of the Central Hall exhibits; the TV and Radio HQ area is at lower left.)

Also new is that the Small and Medium Market Radio Forum will take place on Sunday, April 19, rather than Saturday.

“This change is designed to increase accessibility, boost participation and strengthen the flow of broadcast-oriented programming during the opening days of NAB Show,” the organization stated.

The forum is part of the NAB Show Premium Conference, which includes an integrated Broadcast Management and Monetization Conference. The latter includes the Broadcast Engineering and IT Conference, Radio Advertising Bureau programming and the NAB Leadership Foundation’s Focus on Leadership Series.

Those events will be in North Hall session rooms.

The overhaul and expansion of the LVCC campus began with the opening of the $1 billion West Hall in 2021. The renovation of the legacy campus cost $600 million and was completed in January.

Central Hall has a new Grand Lobby with glass curtain wall and a lot of natural light. A large digital screen anchors that space. There is an interior concourse between the North and South Halls that eases movement (though South Hall is not part of the NAB Show this year). The facing of the legacy buildings also now matches the design of the West Hall.

SBE Sets Its 2026 NAB Show Plans

SBE, Society of Broadcast Engineers

The Society of Broadcast Engineers has announced its agenda for the annual NAB Show in Las Vegas this April.

The SBE Ennes Workshop — often a traditional highlight of the show — will be held on the final two days of the convention, Tuesday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 22. It will feature two separate educational tracks: “RF 101 From Signals to Success: Gets You There” and “Emerging Technology.” Both will be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall.

As we noted back in December, the opening weekend of NAB coincides with “WrestleMania 42” at Allegiant Stadium. Given the conflict, SBE decided to move the workshop to the show’s final days.

The highlight of SBE activities at the convention, according to a release from the society, will be the annual membership meeting and member reception. The events will be held on Monday, April 20.

The membership meeting brings information about SBE’s activities and programs to its members. Several member accomplishments are also recognized at the meeting. The reception will immediately follow.

Both events will have prize drawings for attendees, the society said.

SBE will exhibit Sunday through Wednesday in the North Hall Lobby, booth NL2. The booth serves as a hub to meet elected leaders and staff, as well as to peruse the SBE bookstore and merchandise. The society will also hold a daily prize drawing, so bring a business card to drop off.

The SBE board of directors will meet on April 18. SBE has posted a full schedule, including a rundown of all presentations, on the society’s website.

The event will again be on the Sunday of the opening of the spring NAB Show, with doors opening at 8 a.m. It typically draws round 300 people.

Once known as the Nautel User Group meeting, its program now offers content of interest to engineers more broadly.

Registration Opens for Spring NAB Show

(Above is a drone flyover view from the Vegas Means Business website.)

Registration has now opened for the spring NAB Show. The convention takes place April 18–22.

Major renovation work at the Las Vegas Convention Center is complete. Show organizers promise “a more modern, connected and intuitive campus experience” that includes better lighting, contemporary finishes and clearer sightlines.

Approximately 100 radio and TV technology exhibitors will be newly concentrated in an area of the reopened Central Hall just inside a new front entrance to the freshly renovated Central Hall.

Structurally, the front of Central will have a soaring architectural feature matching the West Hall. Central’s front wall was brought forward, creating a new indoor hallway where an outdoor patio and bus canopy once stood. (You can see a panorama of the new Central Hall entrance here.)

Last year’s convention drew about 55,000 people. The post-COVID high for the event has been 65K in 2023.

In an announcement, Karen Chupka, executive vice president, NAB Global Connections and Events, said, “The breakthroughs we’re seeing in AI, cloud and new content models are redefining how our industry works, and 2026 will reflect that shift.”

An expanded four-day Sports Summit will explore the future of sports rights and fan engagement in a theater on the floor of the West Hall; it will be open to all attendees for the first time.

A three-day program will focus on the business of media and entertainment, in partnership with The Ankler. This too will take place on the exhibit floor in West Hall and be open to all attendees.

The Creator Lab will have an expanded footprint and will be in Central Hall. NAB said the creator economy is projected to be valued at $500 billion by 2027.

Show organizers will launch a new NAB Show mobile app in March that will include tools for creating and managing schedules. It will allow attendees to exchange contact information via QR code  onsite, among other improvements.
